As we always think of starting selling online and to make a business or to sell something. We always face the trends now content creators, promoters, blog posts….. but is it that easy to sell online ?
in this case we will discuss few key points to understand what we really need to do, and not just jumping without any ideas.
So what we will need to Start Selling Online? Especially i’m lost here
But before we can start, i recommend you to make a little bit of search and learn about your competitors :
- What they sell.
- Who’s their customers.
- Their Location
- Prices
If you have those details in front of you then you start having a good start but it’s not enough.
So basically what i need to do?
Your customers segment?
- Who are your target? (Female, Male or Mix)
- Age? (18-20/22-34/ ….)
- Payment method? (Cart/Cash on Delivery/Paypal)
Your value proposition?
- What you will offer them? (Service/ Product/)
This is what will make you different than your competitor, i trust every business here have a weakness.
This weakness if you grab it like a raw gemstone but you manage to carve it to answer your customer needs. I’m sure it will mark the end of your competitors.
So your value must be in the level where your customer will make up his mind and say : i will choose you instead of your competitor. In addition don’t forget that you promise them so don’t let them down after you make some sales and ruin your reputation afterwards. (Don’t be a one sale men)
Your revenue streams?
From where you will generate money
- From Sales?
- From Subscription(Monthly / Yearly)?
- Product Placement(Make third party place his products next to yours).
- Ads(Display Extern Ads)
Your Channels?
How you will deliver your service/ product ? This is the main question, but don’t tell me (i will setup ads on facebook, instagram, twitter, google). If you are wealthy and you had extra money to throw it for charity i can say it’s your choice, if not and this is the case why are you here i can recommend few steps, especially because you already know your customer segments :
- where they are active?when they are active? (Social media type: Facebook/instagram/twitter/tiktok/Snapchat …..)
- Where they are actually available (Groups, pages, Reels….)
After you understand some details you can’t just show up and say : Hello here my product buy it. just like that without any priority and out of nowhere. It will mark your FAIL.
As long as you can build a place where they are used to be, give content and build an awareness for your brand/your business before you deliver what you want to deliver from the start, it will not work as a charming sweet.
On the contrary when you will have this community or resources crafted beforehand it will make the difference when you will be starting selling online. Big company’s in general when they can’t get a specific audience acquired by another small company, they make a deal to get it under their wings.
Ads is another topic and it’s a sea where money can bring gold (You spend less and you gain more)or can make you bankrupt (You spend a loooot but you gain less or nothing).
PS: Some people will say they can start and test, yeah of course but i can’t recommend it and take responsibility while i’m a starter.
Your Customer relationships?
Customers and how you can communicate, listen to them is your top priority and you must give them the highest customer care until they think you are like a close friend for them.
- Easy to reach you.
- Fast Reply.
- No third party included.
Starting Selling Online is easy to make but it’s hard to handle while you are in your first steps the customer should be your top priority and from where you generate your revenue. Every data you collect related to them it will help you to expand your base to reach more of them.
What your daily activities will be?
when you will start your business you need to do a couple of things, to make it run and stay visible and answer your tasks, but as a starter you will not have that much but i recommend you in the spare time where you have nothing to do is to :
- Check your competitors audience.
- Interact with your audience, even if you have one make content for him/her.
- Share what you do or what you offer.
- Improve your Post Quality(Blog, Social media profiles)
- Don’t seek money as a first goal(Yeah it is the cause of maintaining your business but it’s the value of your service / product you offer.)
What resources you will need?
This is a big question but all depends on you when you will decide by starting selling online, because :
- You will start selling on marketplaces (Amazon, Ebay, Facebook Marketplace… or similar alternatives)?
- Your personal website? (A lot of people start with Woocommerce or Shopify but i will cover this topic later).
- Brand? (You will sell your own brand product/service or external brand)
- Budget?(how much you have so you could start)
- Products(From where you will get them by producing them yourself or by outsourcing them-external production)
Costs?
Starting selling online isn’t that free at all, because you will need a budget which you must to spend. Everything you need to calculate the cost and calculate it, but don’t be so much over the lines because you need to preserve so you could spend this money somewhere else.
Finally, every successful business was just an idea at the start, so don’t frame yourselves by thinking about sales from the start. I’m sure you watched a lot of motivational videos before and they always suggest you to do what you love to do, instead of thinking of money offer something without waiting for return from the start.
